More Porcelain Buttons: Diamonds & Skulls

As promised in my previous post (on Starfish Buttons!), here are some more images from my latest batch of buttons "hot out of the kiln." Rustic diamonds, pale textured posies, and more...
Love these blood-red diamonds:
And ochre, which would look so beautiful on a hand-knit scarf or poncho:
Love the blue diamonds, too:
And skulls! Yes, I made several, and soon they will find a place in a yarn shop near you...
Indigo-blue diamonds are gorgeous, too:
These mottled gray diamonds with hints of rusty brown are probably my very favorites:
More blue diamonds; love these:
To finish, I made some more jar frogs. Lots of friends asked me to make them some once they saw my flower arrangements at home. Jar frogs are super-easy to work with, and I especially enjoy using them to hold up thick-stemmed flowers like sunflowers and gladiolas.
I hope you've enjoyed the latest unveiling! If you'd like to purchase my buttons in your local yarn shop, just ask the storeowner to talk to her local yarn sales rep about stocking them. It would be terrific to see how artists are using my buttons in their handmade art and craft items, so I hope you'll send me photos of your creations!
Have a great week,

NEW: Porcelain Starfish Buttons!

Super EXCITED today to unveil some of the results from my very first kiln-firing with my brand-new Skutt kiln! Since my ceramics business is expanding, with more and more yarn stores across the US stocking my handmade porcelain buttons, I decided to invest in a state-of-the-art kiln with computerized controls, which makes for more consistent results when firing stoneware and porcelain.
The starfish buttons pictured here are just a tiny sampling of the many, many buttons in different sizes, shapes, colors and designs that will soon become available to knitting and crocheting enthusiasts! As soon as I get them all attached to cards and shipped out to my sales reps, I'm sure that many stores will snap them up for their customers.
At approximately 3-1/2 inches in diameter, these buttons are HUGE! But they're so cool.
Perfect for embellishing mixed-media art, handmade baskets, large handbags or tote bags, big bulky scarves, or wooly ponchos!
I'll post more photos tomorrow; I've got lots and lots of buttons from my first kiln-load. Yarn and quilt stores from California to Florida are now stocking my handmade buttons, and I'm adding more new stores every week. I've listed my yarn stores on the right of this page with links to their web sites.
Have a wonderfully awesome day, everybody!

NEW Buttons: Diamonds & Squares & Circles, Oh My...

I just added a bunch more of my big porcelain buttons to my etsy store, and currently they are on sale in sets of three for $18 per set. This sale is only good through the end of May! Circles, diamonds, squares, flowers, and rectangles...
As you can see, these are BIG buttons, ideal for embellishing art-to-wear, ponchos and scarves, handmade handbags and hats, arty baskets, artist books and other mixed-media art.
Lots of colors, shapes, and textures to choose from. Most buttons are made from smooth white porcelain. Some are made from another smooth clay called Basaltic black — really gorgeous stuff.

NEW in the Shop: Handmade Flower Buttons on SALE

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I've been adding some new handmade ceramic buttons to my etsy store and having a great SALE on these items, which is good for the month of May. Currently I'm offering large-size buttons in sets of three for $18 per set. My buttons sell in the yarn shops for $18 to $20 each, so this is a very good deal!
For clay, I sometimes use white porcelain and sometimes Basaltic black clay, which adds richness to the textures and glazes. For a full description of each set of buttons available, please visit my etsy store.
Since listing several rectangular-shaped buttons yesterday, I've already sold six! So if you're interested, I suggest that you move fast to get the best selection.
Don't you just love these luscious, butter-yellow buttons?
Perfect for embellishing hand-knit clothing, scarves and shawls, felted handbags, woven items, basketry, and mixed-media art, my handmade buttons are all unique and one-of-a-kind. I hope you enjoy incorporating them into your own creations!
"Put a button on it!"

NEW in the Shop: Handmade Buttons on SALE

I'm having a SALE for the month of May; some of my handmade ceramic buttons are now offered at a significant discount! They normally retail in yarn stores across the US for $18 each. From now through the end of May, I'm offering a few buttons from my personal collection for $18 per set of three.

Some buttons (like the ones pictured above) are made from Cassius Basaltic black clay. Others (like the ones pictured below) are made of porcelain clay. In some sets, I offer a couple of porcelain buttons with a black clay button.

They each measure approximately 2 x 1-1/8 inches; although that is considered "oversize" in the button world, they're surprisingly lightweight for their size. Attach your buttons to a hand-knit sweater or poncho, a quilted tote, a felted hat or handbag, a handwoven basket, or a handmade artist book or other mixed-media art. All of my buttons are handmade and one-of-a-kind, created to enhance your own handmade wearable art.

I also enjoy using a variety of different colored glazes in my ceramic work. Some buttons are glazed with glossy colors like olive-green (pictured above) or French provencal-yellow.
Others are more matte.

I like them all, and I hope you do, too! To purchase buttons in sets of three from my personal collection, visit my etsy shop. Thank you for looking!

Art on,
